The Rios of Mercedes Family of Brands’ legacy of craftsmanship and commitment to timeless quality has made them industry leaders and they continue to break new ground by creating cowboy boots that honor the spirit of the past while embracing modern design.
Rios of Mercedes
Rios of Mercedes are the boots that started it all. The Rios brothers began crafting boots for cowboys and ranchers in 1853. They specialized in one-of-a-kind boots for individual customers until the mid-1970s when the Evans family purchased the brand. The family set their sights on expanding production of Rios of Mercedes to bring these exceptional boots to an even wider audience of enthusiasts.
The commitment to Rios of Mercedes tradition has allowed this family-owned brand of handcrafted cowboy boots with unmatched attention to detail to thrive for over 170 years. Every pair is made in the U.S. from only the finest premium leathers and materials by trained artisans, ensuring that their durable and stylish boots continue to embody the spirit of the American West.
Anderson Bean
Understanding that their time-honored legacy brand was not necessarily accessible to all boot wearers, Rios of Mercedes launched a second brand, Anderson Bean. This premium brand was established with the intention of providing high-quality, American-made boots at a price point accessible to most all boot enthusiasts.
Named after two Evans family matriarchs, Helen Anderson and Macie Bean, the new boots were created to deliver the exceptional quality and craftsmanship that characterize Rios of Mercedes boots via a new brand that would be available to a broader audience. By merging traditional boot-making with innovative new manufacturing techniques, Anderson Bean created a line of boots with the same exacting standards of durability and style as Rios of Mercedes while offering consumers a more accessible price point. This second boot brand ensures that even more boot wearers can experience the luxury and comfort of well-crafted boots that respect quality and design.
Olathe Boot Company
Another legendary boot brand, the Olathe Boot Company, joined the Rios of Mercedes Family of Brands shortly after Anderson Bean. While Rios of Mercedes founded Anderson Bean, the origins of the Olathe Boot Company are a different story.
The Olathe Boot Company is often credited with creating cowboy boots, and the brand’s history is almost as long as that of Rios of Mercedes. Over time, though, Olathe Boot faced challenges and was purchased and sold several times before Rios of Mercedes acquired the brand in 2001, with plans to elevate it and restore it to its former glory.
From the very beginning, the Olathe Boot Company developed a dedicated following of cowboy boot wearers who valued its authentic American-style tradition, and loyal customers believed that Olathe as a brand honored its legacy. Rios of Mercedes was committed to upholding that tradition of quality and durability through the creation of contemporary designs that featured the distinct toe and heel profiles preferred by Olathe’s faithful longtime fans.
Horse Power

Inspired by Anderson Bean’s success, Rios of Mercedes launched an entirely new brand of entry-level boots under the Horse Power label, a line of affordable boots that deliver reliable durability and tailored fits for all-day comfort.
In partnership with Carlos Rodriguez, Rios of Mercedes began producing Horse Power boots at the Young Guns factory in León, Texas, and the reaction from consumers was overwhelmingly enthusiastic and positive. These boots gave wearers a lower price point without sacrificing style or comfort. Many of the most loved features of Anderson Bean can also be found in Horse Power, such as unique patchworks and weaves.
Macie Bean
Jode Vaughan, the great-granddaughter of Macie Bean, spearheaded the newest member of the Rios of Mercedes brand family, catering to women looking for boots that were both fashionable and functional.
Vaughan’s vision for Macie Bean was to deliver stylish, high-quality boots that honor the rich heritage of western boot-making while catering to modern women’s tastes and needs. Macie Bean boots feature eye-catching styles that include vibrant colors, patterns, and stitching that combine contemporary trends with classic cowboy boot aesthetics. Like the rest of the Rios of Mercedes Family of Brands, Macie Bean boots are crafted with meticulous attention to detail from premium leathers and materials. The wide range of styles allows every shopper to find a pair that matches her style, for work, play, or both.
