All-new styles of legendary Hyer cowboy boots now at Nigro’s!

The history of the cowboy boot begins with Hyer. As legend has it, in 1875 a lone, unnamed cowboy rambled into C.H. Hyer’s collar shop in Olathe, Kansas on his way to the famous Kansas City stockyards. At the time, the mysterious cowboy was wearing Civil War-style boots. But he was looking for a boot more suited to his work as a horseman. He sought a pair of boots with a narrow toe (that would make getting into stirrups smoother), a raised heel (to hold on to the stirrups better), and a scalloped top (that would make the boots puts easier to pull on).

Hyer took down the desired specs and set to work on the project. It took a little time, but Hyer crafted the custom boots for the horseman as requested. Little did Hyer know at the time, with that first pair of boots, custom made for the unknown cowboy, the cowboy boot was born!

Word spread and demand for the new style of boot, specially designed for horsemen, got around the whole country. Hyer even created a special paper form so cowboys could fill in their particulars and order the boots through the mail. Orders came in from all 50 states and everyone from movie stars to country singers soon wanted a pair.

Over the next 150 years or so the Hyer Boot Company experienced tremendous highs – and and a few lows. Ownership changed hands several times along the way, until production finally ceased entirely. But the Hyer story isn’t over. Now, 50 years later, Zach Lawless, C.H. Hyer’s great-great-grandson, has made it his mission to revive Hyer Boots and breathe new life into his family’s legacy brand.

Zach revived the Hyer boot by meticulously gathering historical manufacturing details while also consulting with working cowboys to get their feedback allowing Lawless to enhance the boot’s comfort and durability. After doing his research, Zach spent 18 months in Leon, Mexico, mastering boot craftsmanship and selecting factory partners to create high-quality boots with premium leathers.

The new Hyer boots, featuring calfskin linings, durable leather outsoles (that can outlive any untreated sole), and authentic stitch patterns (recovered by Zach from C.H.’s original designs), honor the legacy of the Hyer Boot Company while meeting the demands of modern cowboy boot wearers.

Lawless gathered all the feedback gained from Hyer’s first initial rerelease in 2023 and has fine-tuned the boot. Now Zach is proud to offer a new collection of styles in Hyer’s Fall 2024 collection.
