Poncho Outdoors was founded by Clay, an outdoorsman and former fishing guide in Alaska, who 100% hated the outdoor shirts available for his job at the time. Blousy and big with – with a bunch of straps and loops that got in the way. So he went to work making a new kind of fishing shirt – the orginal Poncho fishing shirt.
Clay teamed up with a team of like-minded outdoormen and set to work in Austin, Texas, making premium shirts for not only fishermen and hunters, but also pitmasters, tailgaters, outdoorsmen, ranchers, bull riders – you get the picture. Collectively, they were sick of the outdated (and frankly unflattering) fit of traditional outdoor performance shirts. With Poncho, they set out to make a better outdoors shirt, one guided by a simple motto – everything you need, nothing you don’t.
The first step – fix the fit. One of the biggest criticisms they and many other outdoorsmen had with traditional outdoor shirts was their large, tent-like shape. It didn’t make for a great-looking shirt, and it didn’t make the shirt any more comfortable. Poncho Outdoors designed their shirts with modern fits more akin to that of a button-down you might wear out on the town – with subtle western detailing and fabric that resists wrinkling.
But don’t let the fit fool you. The Poncho team made no compromise on their shirt’s outdoor-ready performance. Poncho shirts are fully equipped for everything a demanding day outdoors requires. The shirts are constructed from the brand’s proprietary Tuff-Thread fabric that is both rip and fray-resistant – a material that is surprisingly featherlight, along with being breathable and odor-neutralizing for comfortable all-day wear.
